From Brewery to Bar
A Proper Pint with Hook Norton at The Market Tavern
At The Market Tavern in Bampton, we’re proud to serve real ale the proper way, fresh from the cellar, poured with care, and brewed just down the road. Our real ale offering starts with our long-standing friends and neighbours at Hook Norton Brewery, one of Oxfordshire’s most iconic independent breweries.
This historic, family-run brewery in the village of Hook Norton has been crafting beer since 1849. Today, it remains one of the few working tower breweries left in the UK, combining traditional brewing methods with real innovation and passion.
A Visit to the Source
To serve a great pint, it helps to know where it comes from. That’s why earlier this week, Sean and Tash made the trip to Hook Norton Brewery to get hands-on experience.
They toured the original Victorian brewhouse, learned the fine art of cellar management, and even got to taste a few special brews straight from the source. It was more than just a day out. It was a chance to sharpen our knowledge and bring that care and craft back to every pint poured behind the bar in Bampton.
What’s On Tap at The Market Tavern?
We always keep a cask of Hooky on draught, along with a rotating selection of seasonal ales from the Hook Norton range. Expect classics like:
Hooky Bitter – a smooth, well-balanced session ale
Old Hooky – a rich, fruity favourite with a loyal following
Off the Hook – pale, zesty and refreshingly modern
Plus seasonal guest ales, changing throughout the year
Whether you’re a real ale aficionado or just discovering traditional beers, our team is on hand to guide you to something you’ll love.
Real Ale, Real Cotswolds Charm
There’s something uniquely satisfying about enjoying a proper pint of locally brewed ale in a classic Oxfordshire pub. Add in local produce on the menu, a roaring fire in winter or a garden table in summer, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect visit.
So next time you’re in Bampton or exploring the Cotswolds countryside, stop in, grab a pint of Hooky, and taste the difference that comes with doing things the traditional way. From brewery to bar, and cellar to glass.
